Mindo is only an hour and a half from Quito (approx. 80 km or 48 miles) and is easily accessed using the Mitad de Mundo-Calacalí-Los Bancos highway.  The turnoff to Mindo is on the left hand side of the road twenty minutes after the town of Nanegalito.   Mindo is located between a high altitude zone and the rain forest, which gives it the characteristic frequent rain fall.  The average temperature is between 16° and 22° C (61° and 72° F).
This hidden and very calm place is in a valley surrounded by 19,000 hectares (over 48,200 acres) of protected primary and secondary forest.  Over 500 species of birds have been seen in the area, including the Cock-of-the-Rock – a bright red bird that builds its nest in the vertical jungle canyons.
Other birds common to the area are toucans, owls, wild ducks, quetzals, thrushes, hummingbirds and woodpeckers among others.  There are also approximately 2,000 species of native plants in the area, including a multitude of wild orchids, and around 40 different species of butterflies.

When you come to Mindo for adventure, the activities that will make your adrenaline flow are the CANOPY and tubing on the Río Mindo or the Río Blanco.  There is also an infinite number of activities for your relaxation such as ecological walks, waterfalls and the butterfly center that are great tourist attractions for your eyes with their gambit of colors and shapes.  Contact us and we’ll assist you in organizing the activities that will make your experience unforgettable.
